Autominer, merge blocks breaks pistonheads?

Hey I recently got back into SE and wanted to start over, when I wanted to build an old autominer ive built and operated before it breaks everytime I try to start it. When I try to hang it by its mergeblocks to extend the drillhead the merge blocks rips the pistonheads off their pistons.
