Camera Overlay Set Zero

During the Livestream, it was mentioned that it would be desirable to switch the camera overlay. I want to propose the additional feature of setting the "zero" of any camera overlay, for weapons sets that will not perfectly match with the center, allowing you to shift the camera overlay along the X and Y axis, (0,0) of course being default center.

This doesn't really fix the issue of basic geometry. Unless you, the weapon user, were to look directly through the barrel of the weapon during aiming, there is always going to be some parallax error between your view and the barrel axis and, by extension, the aimed-at point.

Unless you are suggesting that the point where the camera generates its image should be able to be moved to somewhere outside the camera. Which would fix the issue, but would also be completely immersion-breaking. Taking a picture from a point where the camera isn't even at … that requires magic.

I mean precisely what I said.

I am aware that you cannot look down the barrel. That is not at all what I am asking for. But with real weapons, you can still set a zero around a standardized distance. For example, if you have a weapon offset, you can reset the zero so you know that at 1 km, it will intersect with the target point.

Like in a normal firearm, where you can set the zero of your scope to be accurate to your firearm's performance at a standardized distance, It is never going to be perfect. But it is what we do with all ranged weaponry in modern times, and is a well-established standard. And I believe it would, while niche, have it's applications in Space Engineers when designing weapons systems.

In the end, it's like saying there is no point in adding a set-zero function to a scope because it'll never be perfectly aligned to the barrel

Fair enough, thanks for the clarification.
