Permit sorters to drain-all ore from refinery

Not Enough Votes

Good old cobalt. Who here hasn't been annoyed by it clogging refineries and starving the industry of dearly needed iron.

Please allow the sorters to pull, using "Drain all", ore, not just ingots, from refineries so that we can engineer automated clean-up options instead of having to manually drag unwanted ores out of refineries every so often, especially in systems where there are already sorters in place to feed them.

for better/specific control of refinery contents, disable the refinery's ability to 'use conveyor system' in its terminal, then you control what gets put it in with sorters or scripts

I appreciate the suggestion, however, but if I were looking for a solution with scripts, I would have gone looking for a script, not made a feature request on the forum.

i get that... but there are other technical reasons that make this not a good idea... snippet from gwindalmir (good coder)

"conveyor system is a push/pull system. Sorters will make a pull request, and any other inventory that can satisfy the request will send over what was requested, but there's no control over what will respond to the request"

which means more code would be needed to choose refineries, and maybe the specific refinery, to prevent items from being pulled from all input inventories, this sort of 'more advanced' control over what get refined is what scripts are for.

your scenario for the suggestion, i would use sorters to have a refinery (basic one to start with as they are cheap) dedicated to cobalt and nothing else.

i will say though, this has been marked 'Not Enough Votes' far too early! this suggestion thread is just 6 days old at he time of this reply...

They all start at "Not enough votes" these days.

If that's how it works, then consider my suggestion reworded as "Refineries should be made able to serve ore-type pull requests". With effectively the same outcome. I may not be able to control what responds to a request, but I can narrow it down.

A separate refinery is possible but unreasonable. It will be idle when it could do something else, a scenario that I'd prefer to avoid.
