How about a craftable battery that can be (re)loaded when put in an container that has access to electricity? It can then be stored in an engineers inventory and when the suit power reserve runs low its refilled from that batteries, just like oxygen and hydrogen is refilled from bottles.
I often find it strange then you can fill your enventory with hydrogen and oxygen bottles but the electricity of your suit is a constant limitation.

We have Powerkits. Granted, they are disposable, but it solves the same problem almost exactly as you describe.

Are you talking about the mod? Probably will use it in the future, still the suggestion of adding an electricity counterpart of the gas bottles into the vanilla game can stay. :)
