Split up assembly into specific crafting machine

I'd love to see more complicated manufacturing systems. Maybe have each craftable item in the game require a more specific machine. So Steel Plates are made in the steel plates machine, Large and small steel tubes are made with steel plates that are constructed in other separate machines. Something like how Factorio does it.

A clear idea, but who needs piling up from different machines? Although I am not against the diversity of production processes.

I feel it would encourage a reason towards physically larger and more complex bases.

I'd certainly like a larger crafting chain, but it seems like there might be issues with implementation if it's too ambitious.

I'd settle for a Metal Former (Steel Plates, Interior Plates, tubes, CCs, other simple metal components), Silicon Etcher (computers, probably split into a few types for different purposes), and maybe another for specialty stuff like reactor/grav/superconductor components.

Considering that they needed to make recipes for refining stone in the Survival Kit, trying to have a complicated crafting system is almost asking for the whole thing to clangsplode codeways and spin off into the depths of jury-rigged functions.

I'd love to go very granular and even have the refining process split up. Iron smelter and uranium enrichment sort of deep.

I'd even suggest the overhaul of the conveyor system so that items cannot cleanly flow through the entire system but need more of a single direction conveyor. Maybe you can have the old bi-directional conveyors but they just operate much slower that the one ways system?

I'm sure these systems would have implementation problems and it would have helped to have this plan in mind in the early days but I think it would make the layout of your base more interesting.
