the crosshair should disappear when pressing TAB

When pressing TAB to get rid of the hud the crosshair should go away too. I can't even count the times that I have to go thru the menus just to toggle it off for a screenshot and then go back thru them just to turn it on again.

Totally agree. When I'm landing a ship on Mars (in multiplayer), I don't have time to jump into the menu and turn off crosshairs, but I really want that shot, so I hit tab and F12 it real fast, and just deal with the crosshairs in the shot.

So I either have to play without crosshairs ALL the time (which makes activating buttons a pain), or I have to photoshop my screenshots to remove the crosshairs :-/

+1 Bump- this is such an obvious, small yet fantastic change to make that I can't understand why it wasn't implemented year ago. Pull your finger out please, Keen...

Back in my day SE use to do this and taking screenshots was quick and easy. Now I have open the menu and tick it on and off everytime I want to make a screenshot instead pushing tab.

And, if we want to leave the current way as an option, we can have a simple drop-down in the settings, looking like this:

Crosshair: [ Show with HUD ]
            [ Always show ]
            [ Always hide ]

+1 Would love that!

I literally (no joke) have a little sticker on my monitor where the crosshair should be so that I can play space engineers with crosshairs turned off and still make lining up on panels easy.

Yes, I do get annoyed by the sticker when I do anything else other than space engineers, but really, is there anything else?

A dry wipe marker maybe :D

A simple toggle crosshair option would also be amazing.

Sometimes I want to play with just the cross hair and no other interface, other times I just want to play with only the interface and no crosshair.

Having an additional option to have the crosshair 'auto show' when 'looking at' a panel would also be nice.

For instance I'm running around without a crosshair up and using tab to hide the rest of the interface to give myself a nice immersive experience, however, under the proposed option I have selected that I want the crosshair to automatically appear with a nice fade in effect when the middle of my screen is close to a 'terminal', 'button panel' or 'connector/conveyor port' (basically all your inter-actables, such as it would be when I'm looking at and trying to interact with panels.

In addition it would also have this automatic effect when I select an aim driven weapon to shoot or a 'player tool/weapon' but otherwise it would hide it.

These simple changes would make the HUD much less intrusive and make the game much more immersive in my opinion.

Also, the cross-hair is too large, I manually edit mine in the game files and reduced its size by 50%, its much nicer to play with.

Do mods like this work on vanilla servers?

photo
2

No, because they are mods- you need to be able to control the server settings and what is loaded into them in order to add mods, as a player you don't have that ability, only the server admin does.

Only scripts can be used on vanilla servers since they are just text pasted into a Programming Block essentially.

Crosshair is part of the HUD. Hide it appropriately.

Is this a bot account? That's the most unhelpful and meaningless reply ever.

yeah, we know the crosshair is part of the HUD, we can't hide it however- it is always on screen and doesn't get hidden even when we do hide the HUD ( by pressing TAB a few times )- we have to go into the game menu to turn it on and off every time which is ridiculous. Did you even look at any of the posts in this thread?...

My post was entirely a +1 that it should be considered part of the hud and hidden appropriately when you hit tab.

I can’t even comprehend how badly you must have interpreted this to make such a response, but maybe take a break from the internet.

I see; your grammar failed you then. What you meant to type was 'I agree, the crosshair is part of the HUD and should be hidden when the rest of it is ( by pressing TAB )'.

See how that completely removes the ambiguity from your comment? Amazing. But thankyou for your support- with any luck, Keen might listen to the players to improve the game instead of spending so much time thinking of new ways to sell old content to them...

Do you ever operate in a non-asshole mode?

Same question, directed back at you.

Even though his comments are often lacking in context, I can assure you Auto is most definitely not a robot.

Installing the mod that Cheyne recommended and unsubbing from this thread. Not interested in the internet yelling.

Seriously, Keen,

It's bloody 2019, there have been dozens of updates and hotfixes, this topic is literally in the Top 5 of Most Popular feedback threads (completed ones excluded) and you still haven't tied this goddamn crosshair to the rest of the GUI so that it can be toggled.

Why is this such a problem??

photo

Didn't this actually used to be a feature??? I feel like it was a thing a few years ago

photo

It was.

Keen should've atleast noticed that this idea exists by now, even though they haven't developed a response yet.

photo

Remember, Keen. Everytime you make me go through the menu to switch this damn crosshair off and on I'm reminding myself not to give you any DLC money. You like money, don't you? Money is useful! Money buys food, clothes, petrol, rent, pays for server costs and developer coffee. Imagine going without developer coffee! You wouldn't want that, now would you?

Another major update, another major update without addressing this issue.

I hope your coffee machine breaks. Yours, and everyone's in a 10-km radius around you.

Hey mate, I dunno if it helps in your particular situation but I wrote a mod for this ages ago that draws the crosshair on the screen if you're interested. You can toggle it with F2, just disable Keen's version first.

It does help tremendously, I'm using it whenever I can. I'm immensely grateful for your work and dedication. It's a disgrace that Keen just won't bother addressing this one thing that's practically literally in one's face.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the feedback.

We're continuing to read your suggestions regarding features/issues but sometimes, it takes us more than a few days to evaluate this feedback.

We prioritize bugs based on the severity of these issues and suggestions based on the popularity with the community, as well as taking the realities of production into consideration.

We have already evaluated this particular suggestion and we have have implemented it into the upcoming version (update) for Space Engineers. :)

We really appreciate all of your feedback. :)

Kind regards,

I'm sorry to interrupt this discussion but is this really a good idea? Maybe you should better include a screenshot mode. Because hiding the hud was probably not introduced for screenshots. More for experienced players, who do not need the hud, and wanted more immersion. But the crosshair is just too important even for those.

photo
2

Well, as for experienced players: I have over 1100 hours in SE. Whenever I played, I routinely ran around with the crosshair disabled and HUD enabled. I assure you the crosshair is not as vital as you make it out to be, and the chore of opening the settings and switching it off any time I wanted to have a clear screen with no HUD elements at all was just not worth bothering.

Alright. You know it better than me.

Thanks Keen! ;)

Awesome; I can have crosshair again, and take clean screenshots!
