Cannot enter in brackets [ ] in text lines in menu any longer

Since this update, anytime trying to enter a bracket [ ] into a text area in the menu, you are automatically changed to the previous [ or next ] menu. This makes adding tags such as [LCD] or even using it for named grids using brackets impossible. Please remove this awful addition or have it be keybound to the same way as the hotbar.
