Shortcomings since Warfare 2 please address in Warfare 3
Hello i am FK the Engineer.
i am making an appeal for a block to be added that should have been added in Warfare 2 which was also the update that made hydrogen tanks explode when damaged severely.
other opportunities to added were in fieldwork and core systems.
The block i am requesting is a medium hydrogen tank for small grid let me Explain.
Ever since Warfare 2 hydrogen tanks with fuel in them will explode when destroyed requiring that fuel tanks need to be coded in armor. the problem is we have a lack of choice in sizes of fuel tank for small grid. the large tank is 5x5x5 blocks basic armor for it will be a 7x7x7 box. and the small tanks with a capacity of 15,000 liters doesn't seem really useful to me the small capacity makes them run out of fuel rather quickly. of course you can install more. however, i did the math in order to match the large tank you will have to build over 30 small tanks.
consider adding a small grid hydrogen tank that is 3x3x3 with a capacity between 100,000 and 120,000 liters allowing us to build a more reasonable armored shell around it like in this image.

We also need to consider the players on console yes we PC players can always install a mod but the players on Xbox and PlayStation do not have this luxury. they are starving for choice and probably don't even know it.

Limitations like the lack of a medium H2 tank exist to force creativity. It makes you design your ship not by taking the easiest route, but by thinking. It makes the blocky shape of SE ships more complex and ultimately better-looking by forcing you to expose certain internals. But I hear you, what about survivability?
The problem with this train of thought is that small grid armor is entirely worhless against anything larger than a gatling cannon bullet. Or an autocannon bullet, if we are feeling generous. Why? Small grid heavy armor block has 560 HP. An assault cannon shell or a small grid railgun sabot does 4000 damage. An artilelry shell does 17000. The small gid large H2 tank has 6254 HP. So, an assault cannon will destroy a H2 tank in 2 hits. To make it 3, you'd have to clad the H2 tanks in 4 layers of heavy armor (and even then, the H2 tank would be burning). Artillery will just oneshot it no questions asked.
The entire idea that you are supposed to armor up small grid -anything- really, is wrong. You survive by dodging enemy fire and staying past the 800 meter range of enemy gatlings if possible.
But let us assume there would be such a thing as a small gird medium H2 tank. From the currently existing O2 tank we can extrapolate that it would have a HP of 2538. It would be 1shot killed by assault cannons even through two layers of small grid heavy armor, whereas the current large tank can survive 2 shots without any armor. Of course, its survivability would be increased by its smaller size and you could possibly pack more of them for redundancy, however:
A 3x3x3 tank in a 5x5x5 shell would overall have considerably worse survivabiltiy than the current large tank. With the exception of being caught in a torrent of gatling fire, which should not happen to begin with, if you are competent as a small grid pilot. When you factor in the weight, and how much it slows down the craft and makes dodging enemy fire harder, it gets a lot worse still.
(from the weight of the small gird medium O2 tank and heavy armor block, we can calculate that a medium H2 tank clad in heavy armor would weight: 641.6 + 98*112 kg = cca 11 617.6 kg, varied by the number of conveyors you'd use. THIS IS MORE THAN 7 TIMES THE WEIGHT OF THE 5x5x5 TANK!!! Even if we use light armor, which is purely decorative and worthless even against gatlings, you'd still end up with around 2600 kg!)
As for the fear of explosion, it is entirely overrated. Even a full H2 tank only explodes enough to destroy the blocks closest to it. A single blast wall of light armor separating it from your other systems will protect those. If you expect to take fire in your SG fighter, using a shitload of small tanks is preferable, if not PCU efficient. Small H2 tanks do not damage anything at all when they explode, and more of them means more redundancy. Unlike large tank or the proposed medium tank fighters, they can eat even artillery shells without much issue, as long as it's not the cockpit getting hit and other critical systems are redundant as well.
