Assemblers close to something like a refinery often get completely clogged. Having an option to protect it and "pull only required ingots" to prevent it from happening would considerably improve quality of life.

what's happening isn't that it's pulling more then it needs, the refinery is dumping ingots into it.
but yes, if the assembler is clogged it should automatically try to empty it's inventory to cargo containers.

I think I've asked about something similar (but for any inventory) before and devs replied it's not gonna be implemented as they don't want to touch the inventory system. The assembler's inventory is the same inventory as any other, and it is considered as a free space. If this is the closest or the only inventory left with available capacity, the refinery will push ingots into it.
