Make the new temperature mechanic have visual effects

I think the temperature element in the game is kinda neat but can be quickly over shadowed until your taking damage and realize that your not suffocating your suit power is gone and your out in the cold or heat. Currently I feel that this interesting new mechanic is kinda hard to notice and it just plays the same effect that you get when your suffocating.

I would love to see a overlay effect on your hud or visor. When your out in the cold bits of frost shows up in the corner and it builds up when your freezing than keep that effect until your dying and vice versa for the hot and inferno setting but I guess put a blur of sorts around the corners when your heating up. I feel like it would add to the satisfaction of getting into a pressurized room seeing your hud clear up from the temperature.

[SIDE NOTE]

Maybe increase the heat radius of the planet core it took me forever to reach it even though there is no point to digging down there. I kinda personally would like to see rare bits of Uranium down in the inferno section of the planet. I would love to have a reason to experience Inferno on planets I just really want this temperature element of the game fully utilize in SE because I feel like it can be fun and interesting. How it is now isn't working for me it with the whole playing the suffocation effect and freezing in space is the only time I notice it.

I was thinking the same thing during the second playtest, I like the idea of the temperature system but it leaves something a little more to be desired seeing as it is extremely basic right now.

I was thinking if your suit is freezing, your screen will eventually develop a frost outline then after some time has passed you begin to take damage, and if it says cold, it will take longer for visual effects/damage to take effect, and have it vice versa with hot/boiling/inferno with either a fog or a sweat kind of visual effect, it shouldn't really be instantaneous as it feels really weird to be taking damage right as you lose suit energy.

another idea I had was to have a temperature thermostat icon near the bottom of the screen with the icon showing a bar indicating suit temperature, cold takes it down slowly and freezing taking it down faster, reaching the bottom = start taking damage, vice versa with heat, hot rising slowly, boiling/inferno raising it faster, reach top = damage. of course visual effects would carry over as well.

It would in my opinion flesh out this new mechanic and make it a lot more interesting as a survival mechanic in game.

Agreed, frost forming on the visor for cold and the visor fogging up around the edges when hot. But should start to appear before damage is applied to the player.

Oh, I meant like it appears small but grows when your in a more intense environment and becomes really intense once your dying. Like the frost would start at the corner of the screen and when your at freezing it grows towards the center a bit. When your freezing to death it thickens and the damage effect plays. I just really hope Keen does add some kind of overlay effect for temperature...

And maybe the hands get shaky, heck maybe even the visor/hud/screen would have a little shake on it!

For reference they could have a look at Dont Starve Together which is in my opinion one of the best survival games. Sure a completely different game, but the design fundamentials should also apply to SE

Visual cue would be nice. Like in elite dangerous, when you are cold/low heat level. the cockpit/your visor starts freezing and would spew flame or the warning light starts going off. For the suit it could be simpler like edge of your visor start having orange tint or whatnot.

I also like the visual indication Subnautica gives you. They could also draw inspiration from this game
