[0.7] block placement distance defaults too far away

After the new update, the block placment distance or blocks such as crafting table and logs stockpiles defaults to the maximum placement distance, many meters away from the player. This may be good for building castles but is annoying when first starting out. It resets everytime I equip a block to this extreme distance and it is getting bothersome very quickly.
