Landing gear clipping/collision error

I was playing around at the Barn and decided to move the cargo containers off the ship construction bay doors using the Grasshopper via landing gear. A couple odd behaviors:
1. as soon as the landing gear connect, the dampeners are toggled to off. I can foresee this being problematic for some similar circumstances (based on extensive experience in SE1)
2. the ship sinks even with dampeners on - I'm assuming the attached grid weight is not accounted for.
3. when the landing gear is unlocked, if dampeners are off, the grasshopper falls through the cargo container (no clipping).
Similar behavior also happened with landing the Grasshopper on top of the 6-wheeled truck and cycling the landing gear.
