Thank you for the player experience improvements in Smoother, Stable, Faster update!
Thank you so much for the usability changes, specifically:
Speed lock
Auto-save changes (especially save on load into cockpit)
Overload warning
As a new player, running into these problems organically felt really bad. it was far too easy to break my ship, and with no good auto-save checkpoint to go back to, it was extremely punishing because I just had to build an entirely new ship from scratch every time. With how easy it is to break ships, that was not fun. Crashing your ship into a mountain and watching them explode is a key part of the game, so it really needed a checkpoint system to allow you to laugh it off and try again. Really the biggest thing that made the game unapproachable and unfun for me as a new player.
The speed lock is a brilliant move and I love it. Giving player agency for when the ship is going fast enough to be dangerous is an extremely important gameplay improvement, and one that was fundamentally necessary if you want new players to engage with the game the way it's intended, as a fun exploration and building/engineering game rather than as a "rage" game that just punches you in the face all the time for no reason.
Similarly the overloaded warning. Losing my ship to this meant the end of my play session the first time it happened to me, as I was not prepared for the weight of my cargo to require more thrust to keep working, and, again, having to build an entirely new ship from scratch because I could not get airborne fast enough was not fun. After I had cooled down a bit and thought about it, I really appreciated that the cargo weight actually affected the weight of the ship and I felt it was really cool and a core part of the game, one of those engineering challenges you're always thinking about adding in the game, and I love it. But that warning is so so necessary, so that, again, players can engage with the systems instead of being blindsided by them.
Improvements to the tutorial/first missions are absolutely necessary to move this game out of the alpha stage to a beta level of polish, and I'm so glad you are taking these very necessary gameplay steps, making sure the onboarding of new players is a smooth experience before throwing them into the world with nothing but 3 tools and a dream. (of course, keep the classic survival experience for those who want it too).
Just, Absolutely great work, These were the biggest pain points that kept me from wanting to play the game, and kept me feeling anxious and nervous to explore instead of excited and eager to play in this wonderful sandbox you've created. Bravo/Brava everyone.
