Energy from cable rope and wood farming

I would like to create a mod that would introduce the following features in the game: 1)a mechanic for transmitting energy via a cable that would move in the wind, with connectivity from any angle; 2) obtaining logs from trees and new wooden blocks — which direction should I look in and what should I read?
