Wind in SE2 What Are You All Seeing?

I’ve been messing around with wind in SE2 lately, and I’m starting to think it’s one of those systems we all interact with but never actually talk about. The more I poke at it, the more questions I end up with — not complaints, just genuine curiosity.

I even recorded a stupidly long video of me testing a first‑version weather vane. It’s probably not balanced properly (it wobbles like it’s drunk), but it does show some odd behaviour when the wind shifts. I’m wondering if anyone else has tried building something similar to visualize wind direction or strength, and what you found.

For context: I haven’t personally run into turbine issues — the one time I thought I did, it turned out the turbine wasn’t producing because nothing actually needed power. So I’m not here to say turbines are broken or anything like that.

But there are a few things that feel… off? Or at least unclear.

One example: Our little space buddies can move at 20 m/s in clear weather — that’s the dampener‑controlled safe speed. But when storms hit and the wind is howling, you can fly with the wind and the dampener still somehow keeps you under that 20 m/s limit. By rights, you’d expect the wind to nudge you past that cap, or at least fight you in a noticeable way. Instead, it feels like the dampener is overriding the environment entirely.

So I’m curious:

• How does wind behave for you?
• Have you built anything to test or visualize it?
• Does it feel consistent, or does it seem tied to something other than weather?
• Do storms actually affect your movement or grids in ways you can reliably predict?

I don’t have a theory I’m trying to push — I genuinely don’t know what’s going on under the hood. I just want to gather other players’ experiences and see if there’s a pattern we can piece together. Maybe wind is working exactly as intended, maybe it’s doing something unexpected, or maybe we’re all seeing different things.
