Large mass ship bounced by a small one while in space

Hello,

I have a large mass ship (4.802.621 kg) that is idle in space. If I hard land a small ship (~200.000 kg) the big ship is catapulted and spins out of control.

Do all objects in space have the same mass now?

This is a 4million kg ship having 3 more shipps docked so almost 6 million kg mass.

I believe this is caused by current issue with calculating the mass of a Grid with subgrids (either through Mechanical Blocks or Connectors) described in this thread: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers2/pc/topic/51013-flight-characteristics-with-connected-mass

Could you please confirm that is the case?

I confirm, this is the case.

  • The core bug: The physics engine in Space Engineers 2 miscalculates a ship's mass when it has parts attached via connectors or mechanical systems (subgrids).
  • When the small ship (~200,000 kg) hard-lands on the massive ship (4,802,621 kg), the game does not use the actual mass in the collision and momentum equation. Due to this subgrid/connector mass calculation bug, the mass of the large ship is misinterpreted or improperly factored in at the moment of impact
  • Why it happens: Instead of the small ship taking the brunt or bouncing off without moving the giant, the game's physics mishandles the mass ratio. The resulting momentum causes the nearly 5-million-kg ship to be catapulted and spin out of control as if it had negligible mass
