Rotors/Subgrids cannot connect to multiple linked subgrids

As can be seen in the above image / attached file, the mechanism I am trying to build is impossible due to the highlighted rotor and rotor head refusing to connect no matter how close in proximity I place them.
I have to assume that this has something to do with how subgrids are coded in SE2? This issue only seems to surface when I attempt to attach a subgrid to my main grid via two or more rotors.
I hope that this is un-intended, because it greatly limits the complexity of mechanisms we can create in SE2 at present.
