Major performance and rendering issues after latest update - Infinite loading and missing textures/U

Need More Information

Since the latest major update, my game has become unplayable due to severe loading and rendering issues. Prior to this update, the game functioned correctly without any problems.

Issue Details: When attempting to load any saved game, the loading process takes an excessively long time. Once the save finally loads, the following issues occur:

  • Missing Textures: World textures fail to render properly.
  • Physics Failure: In-game physics do not initialize.
  • UI/HUD Issues: Neither the game interface (HUD) nor the settings menu interface are visible.

Troubleshooting performed:

  • Integrity Check: I verified the game files via Steam. All files were validated successfully, but the issue persists.
  • Cache/App Data Reset: I attempted to resolve the issue by deleting the AppData and ShaderCache folders in Roaming\SpaceEngineers2. While this allowed the game to load correctly one time, the issue returned immediately after restarting my computer, indicating that the game files or configuration become corrupted again upon launch.
  • New Save Test: Creating a brand new world initially works, but as soon as I save and reload it, the same bugs occur.

Hello Reservao,

Could you please provide your Game logs? Additionally, could you please provide your PC specification?

In the meantime, please try reinstalling the Game - make sure to delete all the folders in the Game's installation and in the Roaming folder (Please make sure to backup your Save Games and Blueprints)

Kind Regards,

I have discovered a consistent workaround that allows me to load my save files correctly, which may help you identify the root cause of this bug:

  1. I launch the game and start a brand new world. The game loads this world without any issues.
  2. Once I am inside the new world and fully spawned, I open the menu and load my original save file (the one that was previously failing).
  3. The game successfully loads my progress without any of the texture, physics, or UI issues.

It appears that the game successfully initializes the required assets and engine state when loading a fresh save, which then allows the main save file to load properly afterward. However, trying to load the main save directly from the main menu still results in the reported bugs (infinite loading, missing textures, and missing UI).

This suggests that the initialization process triggered when starting a new game is missing (or failing) when loading a saved game directly from the main menu.

I’m reporting a similar performance issue here. I started a quick survival mode run as soon as version V2.3 was released; I’m at 20% colonization of the Verdure sector and 4% overall, and the game is running with an annoying amount of slowdown.

Current game status:

CPU - Main Thread: 88.75 ms (532%);

GPU - VRAM: 6.27 GB of 7.01 GB - Frame: ~16–22 ms;

Encounters: 9,705 (NPC), AllManagedSystems: 65,132 entities, ManagedWorldArea: 55,427 entities;

SPECS:

Win10

Intel Core i5 10400F

RAM 32 GB

NVMe SSD 512 GB

RTX 4060

I’m having the same problem. Aside from this bug—which eventually goes away and everything returns to normal after restarting the game several times—the incredible amount of stuttering introduced with this new update is making the game impossible to play. I’m going to try what Arthur Figueiredo suggested.
