tanks and batteries lose contents when switching from auto to fill when already full

As the title says.
I am docked in a small ship, small starting tank, or batteries.
I set these batteries or tanks to fill while I'm docked, so they can recharge.
Before I take off and undock I set back to auto, and take off. However, if I dont undock, and instead just toggle between fill and auto and back again, the tank or battery just voids all contents, resets to zero, and I have to start filling again.
The contents seem to just disappear completely.
I've tested with both hotbar buttons that set auto and set fill (also why no toggle any more? now I need two buttons)
Also behaves the same when doing it in the control panel manually, and seems to happen in player bases, as well as trading posts.
