Pushed through ground by ship/survival pod

I was digging around the survival pod and the ship moved and somehow pushed me through the ground. At which point I cannot dig myself out (nothing but air around me) and free fall or hover using backpack until I ultimately die. Respawn just drops my backpack into the void so I lose all my stuff as well. Any chance of an emergency respawn that doesn't drop my gear or a setting for the survival campaign to always respawn with your backpack and gear?
