Piston reverse - multiple game crashes

I built a new mining ship that uses a piston, a rotor, connectors, connector adapters and small drills to have a rotating drill head that can push forward into ore while flying in space.

While testing and fine tuning the operation of the rotor and piston, I retracted the piston to make some adjustments. Each time when the piston gets close to completing the retraction, the game is crashing.

I have reloaded the game and repeated the process, and each time the game crashes. The rotor and drills are still operating when the piston is busy retracting.

I will try again, but turn off the drills and rotors to see if that makes a difference.

With the drills and rotor off, the game still crashed again. It appears to be happening in the last half to 1/3 of the piston retraction, while the last section is retracting. See the attached screenshot.

Version is v2.2.0.2116, game was generated under v2.2.0.2113.

I rebooted and tried turning off the piston instead of letting it fully retract. The game did not initially crash. However, the piston does not stick where it was at when the power was shut off. As soon as I backed up the ship, the piston started sliding out to maximum extension, then bounced at the end and reversed direction. After sliding completely closed, it bounced open again. Slowly the oscillations died down. But as soon as I turned the piston back on, the game crashed.

I even tried again, setting the piston velocity and control velocity back to 0 before powering it back on. No luck, game crashed again.

This time I have left it off, and I'm disassembling the mining section from drills through piston before heading back to base.

The attached screenshots show the basic structure of the vessel. I set up the oxygen generator and both hydrogen and oxygen tanks, plus the survival kit. There are 5 batteries in total, with one battery opposite the H2/O2 Generator to balance the axis. There are 4 2.5m storage containers to hold plenty of ore for mining, and a solar panel to help charge the batteries. 2 medium ion engines on the rear, and 1 medium ion engine plus 4 small ion engines firing forward to slow down. Top and bottom have 6 small ion engines, balanced between the left and right side of the vessel. There are 3 small ion engines for left and right maneuvering at the bottom. There are 5 gyros for rotational control. There is an antenna and an ore scanner to round out the ship. The separator between containers was because I misaligned some of the ports when putting it together.

The ship is a bit ungainly in flight. I might have too many or not enough gyros, as the ship tends to oscillate back and forth in large swings when rotating, until the oscillations tamp down. Also the rear thrusters are a bit off from the central axis, as the vessel likes to dip down a bit when thrusting forward.

I have saved the blueprints for the ship, but they had to be saved in two parts because, for some reason, the rotor and rotor head are considered the separator point between the ship and the drilling section. The entire blueprint could not be saved together.

Hopefully that's enough info if you need to recreate the ship. If not, I can try uploading it to the Steam Workshop.
