Game thinks im running Windows 8 not 11
Hi,
I’m experiencing a crash on launch with Space Engineers 2. The game immediately closes and displays the error:
“Your system does not meet minimum requirements.”
However, my system is well above the minimum specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
- GPU: RTX 4060 Ti
- RAM: 16GB
- OS: Windows 11 25H2 (Build 26200.8037)
From reviewing the logs, it appears the game is incorrectly detecting my OS as:
Windows 6.2.9200 (Windows 8)
This seems to match reports from other users on newer Windows builds.
I have attempted the following troubleshooting steps:
- Updated GPU drivers (latest NVIDIA)
- Verified game files via Steam
- Reinstalled the game
- Reinstalled DirectX and Visual C++ runtimes
- Forced GPU usage (no integrated graphics in use)
- Tried launch options (e.g. -force-d3d11)
- Ran as administrator
None of these resolved the issue.
Additionally, I am unable to roll back my Windows version as the “Go back” option is unavailable, so I cannot test on an earlier build.
Could you please advise if there is a workaround, or confirm when this will be fixed?
I am aware that there was a ticket raised 4 months ago (SE2-29483) and that many people are having this issue.
As this game was a wedding present and something i have been greatly looking forward to play this has been a huge disappointment.
Happy to provide logs or further information if needed.
Thanks.
I have the same bug
Hello Ragnar T. Krennic,
Please check if both your Steam and the Game are not running in Compatibility mode with Windows 8. Additionally, as one player mentioned - disabling "Run as an Administrator" in the Game's properties resolved this problem for them, you could also check this solution.
Unfortunately, it is an issue with Windows itself where it is sometimes detected as Windows 8.
Let me know if any of above solutions helped.
Kind Regards,
