Attacked ship despawn shortly after being hit.

I hope that fighting with NPCs won't be such a joke as it is currently. I found an unknown signal which was some ship that started shooting at me. I returned fire and after I disarmed the ship the grid that represented the ship simply disappeared. Not even a minute passed from the attack until the disappearance of the broken ship. Seriously?
