Automatic Docking is very violent

Even with Alignment Speed at 0.1, the docking process feels very violent. See attached video.

I have the same bug Access denied
In VS2.3 I set the connection speed values of both the ship and the station connectors to 0.001. Now I am getting a smooth automatic connection. I find it strange that the default setting is to smash the ship violently against the station connector. Why do I have to choose such a small value (1/1000) to get natural looking docking?
