A block face material tool

I would like a tool that allows you to change the material on a *face* of the block, and not the whole block. Part of my reason for this is because I thought that, maybe, a low-friction face on a block could allow you to create seals without fusing blocks together. The blocks could register being next to each other, and the faces would not allow real merging. Other uses for this tool/function would be high-friction surfaces, for example.

Imagine that you're on an ice planet, icy moon, or icy biome. It's freezing, and snow falling/ a biome condition makes it so that walking on metal surfaces is slippery. A high-friction surface would give you better grip on the metal block, and the slippery state would give better immersion!

Additional functions for the low-friction surface, outside of not allowing blocks to merge, could be to allow easier movement of blocks on the low friction surface, especially if the bottom of said block is also sprayed with the low-friction surface.

This tool, if developed, could be something you have to contstruct, instead of something given to you on load-in. The "surface material" could be an ammo-type, and the sprayer/tool could use different types of "surface ammo" for different type of surfaces.
