VRAGE3 - Texture Swapping

I’d really like to be able to switch textures on my model based on the state of the object. For example:
I’m using Emissive Red on a small panel on my doors. I want to be able to change that to Emissive Green when the door is open. And back to Emissive Red again when it’s closed. Like a status indicator light.
This would be really useful and I can think of lots of applications for it. Maybe only use it with Emissives to begin with?
