Lets face it, everything about energy is cool - production, storage, usage!

PRODUCTION

The production of energy should be all about Scale - giant solar and wind farms, massive hydro dams, gigantic fusion/fission reactors... There should be no limit to how much energy you should produce! More is always better!

STORAGE

Concentrated energy is cool. Batteries. Bigger batteries. Antimatter as dense energy storage. Synthesize uranium using energy, again for dense storage.

USAGE

Justification for Energy Production and storage At Scale

  • Production farms, rows of blocks producing all the components you need
  • H2 / Oxygen generation for hydrogen ships and life support
  • Artificial Gravity generation
  • Space crypto! Build giant server farms, Input Energy, Output money, spend money!
  • Biomass farms - all that lighting and heating needs energy
  • Antimatter production for dense energy storage and antimatter weaponry
  • Ore Synthesization - missing rare ore! make your own! for ridiculous amounts of energy. Imagine giant rows of ore synthesizers! "Renewable energy -> Synthesize Uranium -> Reactors". Also think special ores that can ONLY be synthesized, some kind of crystals?
  • Jump gate operation - either constant upkeep, or need a big chunk of energy to use once
  • Shields operation
  • Laser mining - much more energy intensive than drills, but with different characteristics (Ill leave pros/cons open - could be speed, ease of use, efficiency, whatever)
  • Communications - think instant, infinite range, communications across the system
  • Laser weapon capacitors - need energy to load them, for when you need them!
  • Energy teleportation - lose 90% of the energy, but the remaining 10% gets teleported to a remote ship! Just need an energy receiver block.
  • Remote conveyor - for lots of energy, teleport ores and components across space
  • Prediction - for lots of energy, predict weather and other events before they occur?
  • Sale of energy - simply fill up your batteries (the best ones you got), and go sell at a station


New blocks (based on above):

  • Server block
  • Biomass generator
  • Antimatter synthesizer, Antimatter storage, Antimatter generator, Antimatter weapon
  • Ore synthesizer block
  • Jump gate (single block or a modular system)
  • Shield generator
  • Mining laser
  • Advanced Communications Block
  • Laser weapon with built in capacitor
  • Energy teleporter and Receiver blocks
  • Remote conveyor input and output
  • Prediction block

Not all of these are acceptable depending on person. Teleporation, laser mining, things like that, not realistic enough?


But the point is that there needs to be lots of different energy sinks, or there is no incentive to build production and storage for energy.
