I posted this in a Steam forum but I will send it here as well. See below:

I’m currently playing through survival in Space Engineers 2, and while the foundation is solid, it still feels very much like a work in progress, which I understand that is where it's at currently.

The sandbox is excellent. There’s a huge space to explore, mine, and build in, and ship controls feel noticeably better than the first game. Collisions are also far more forgiving. Bumping into something at low speed no longer turns your ship into confetti, which is a very welcome change.

Survival progression exists through contracts, but it’s slow and a bit frustrating. You can only take one contract at a time, and having to return to a terminal just to complete it feels outdated. With the level of technology in this game’s universe, remote completion should really be an option. In a universe where we can communicate across star systems, being forced to physically return just to say “mission complete” feels a bit… retro. We have smartphones in real life, so surely space engineers 2 can manage remote check-ins.

Inventory management is another weak point, especially with batteries. When charging power sources from your inventory, the game always targets the most charged battery instead of the weakest one. This forces you to juggle batteries by dropping or storing them elsewhere just to charge the right one, which feels clunky and unnecessary.

There are also some minor but annoying issues. Opening the map and creating GPS markers forces you into third-person view when you close it. GPS functionality in general feels like a step back from the first game. Being able to toggle markers and adjust their colours would go a long way.

Survival itself isn’t very challenging yet, but the road-map suggests more is coming. The core is strong, and with better pacing, quality-of-life fixes, and added difficulty, Space Engineers 2 has a lot of potential. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.
