Better contract rewards - block unlocks somewhat meaningless for a new player

I played the existing contracts. One complaint is constant back and forth flying.
But the bigger issue is that unlocking blocks is not a meaningful reward for a new player. They barely know what the blocks do. Theyre not ready to build. The game does not make them build.
So we need additional rewards to motivate playing through the initial contracts that act as the tutorial:
- Slightly better ships (or even just different ones)
- Skill points or upgrades to player or their ship
- Currency of some kind. Basic money sure, but also social currency like "trust" or "respect" or such for when NPC come.
Currently there are only two meaningful rewards - slowly unlocking new planets, and watching the colonization percentage go up. But neither feels that rewarding.
