Separate weapon blocks into Hardpoints and Weapons

The hardpoint is a cube with conveyor access and a slot for a weapon or multiple.

The hardpoint determines Aiming capabilities:

  • Fixed
  • Fully gimbaled
  • Player controlled
  • Tracking

The weapon is just the actual weapon itself, that is attached to a slot on the hardpoint!

  • Gatling guns, snipers, rocket launchers, lasers...
  • Different qualities and tiers (Common, Rare, Legendary?)
  • Find or buy weapons and easily swap them - no need to deconstruct the hardpoint!

The weapon draws ammunition/energy through the hardpoint.


Benefits:

  • No duplicate work adding the same base to every weapon block
  • No explosion of model files if you want every weapon type to have every aim type - splitting things up allows efficient permutations for hundreds of realized weapons of varying capabilities
  • Adding a new hardpoint or weapon automatically leads to many many new combos one can do since every weapon is compatible with every hardpoint!
  • Can do fancy things like multiweapon hardpoints (several slots)
