Docking ports randomly stop connecting

I have a large grid ship that I dock two smaller grid ships to. Occasionally I am unable to connect one of them to the dock. It will align and turn yellow but it stops before it gets close enough to turn green. This problem is intermittent and will sometimes go away during the same session, at other times it won't go away until a reload.

I have had this happen with station docks as well as docking two mobile grids to each other. Some rare occasions I can "wiggle" the controlled ship down to successfully complete docking. Most often, however, the two connectors act like repelling magnetic forces are being applied. Undocking and attempting to re-engage docking procedure can result in the ship being repelled further from the dock. In my case, it's the blue miner from the storyline and built-in stations as well as player constructed stations. Sometimes the magnetic repelling forces will cause the miner to pitch forward (drills to station surface). If I do a quick load I'm able to dock without issue but the behavior returns later in the same session requiring another quick load (or load from menu also works).
