"Load game" + "save game before loading" results in progress loss.


The game saves before loading, overwrites latest save and loads IT, not the save you have chosen.

Accidentally clicked on Yes (save before loading) and lost my progress. Wanted to load before i messed with contract. But it resulted with instant SAVE+LOAD.

This looks to be working as intended. If you are trying to reload to an earlyer point then you click no and it will reload to the last save point. The game is asking if you want to save right now before you reload the world clicking yes is you saying save now and reload me to this point.

Steps:

1) Press Load game

2) Select file you want to load

3) Then game asks "Save before loading"

4) I accidentally clicked "Yes"

5) Game is saving, rewriting save file that I clicked to load.

6) Game is loading save that was saved a second ago.

So its not a bug or anything you just didnt read it and pressed the wrong button

The matter is that in 2) I've already chosen file I want to load. And I can rewrite it while not leaving prompt screens? This is hilarious

I agree: It should definitely not overwrite the Save File you just choose to load. This is clearly horrible User Interface / User Experience Design. Probably made by an intern who had no Idea about UI Design. Or just someone who was not thinking through what is going to happen - or simply was too lazy and did not care about the consequences. Who knows.

This is easy to fix for the Devs. They just need to put a write lock on the previously selected save File and (just to be extra safe) also write the existing state to a new Save File if the User presses "Yes" to "Save before loading?".

It gives you the option if you want to overrite the current save he press yes instead of no.

Correct. And that exactly is the Problem!! The exact Dialog Text is "Do you want to save your current World before loading?" - It should write to a NEW SAVE FILE.

The User has at this point already decided to load an older File! Therefore:

It should not overwrite the older, previously selected Save File, which contains the World in a State without the broken Stuff for example.

The User wants to load the previously selected Save File and does NOT want it to be overwritten!

The Save File and Load File Feature is horribly implemented IMO and overwrites Save Files which should not be overwritten to begin with. That is the whole Problem.

If People would have implemented Loading and Saving in such a lazy way in other Games even in the 1980's, they would have been laughed at and their future products ignored or at least not been sold at full Price. Space Engineers 2 is an Alpha with not even the minimal Core Features correctly implemented and most others missing completely - despite it already been released into Early Access over 10 months ago.

Now is the time for the KSH Devs to overhaul and fix the Core Features before it is too late. *Peace*
