Flight in space feels wrong...

If I'm flying right to left in the direction of the arrow with the front of my ship point in that direction and then rotate the ship (without touching any thruster controls), the ship should still drift in the direction of the green line. Instead, the ship curves and slams into the asteroid that I should have drift past.
