Can't weld this visible interior cube, then game crashed

I have Fe but can't weld this cube, despite it showing up in the weld gun target. Similar to the 'can't weld inside hologram' issue, but in this case the target is pickup up the right block and I still can't weld it. This is a projection of the bullfrog mining ship from Kemik contract.
Also probably unrelated but game crashed right after I took this screenshot using F12 from Steam.
