Survival contract (needs delay) crashes game bug

I've confirmed that once I select either of the following contract the game will crash shortly afterwards. Engineering-Manufacturing Facility and Engineering-Excavation Site. The game freezes when approaching the atmosphere. My guess is that the contract acceptance process is creating the site and causing some sort of issue. When the game freezes no keyboard or mouse controls work. The clouds continue to move around the planet. After a short time, the sound stops working briefly.
Waiting 5+ minutes after selecting either contract allows the game to function normally without issues.
