I had a crash to desktop when flying around

I got a crash to desktop when flying around in a h2 and atmo ship. I was heavily loaded (4 full cargos) and close to maxing power. I had not completed the tutorial missions, I had just finished fixing the piping to the h2 thruster. I had taken all the non construction/steel plate components from there and was investigating unknown signals.
My system specs are near the low end (i7 8700, GTX 1080, 16 gb ram), and I was not getting smooth game play. The game would freeze up for a couple of seconds and then play for a few seconds before freezing again. Audio continued during the freezes. ram was peaking around 12 GB, I think I was running out of ram, causing the freezing as windows tried to free some up.
