game crashes on planets

i have been flying around with the jetpack looking at terrain and the game will consistently crash within a minute of sustained movement at between 50 and 200m/s however if i remain stationary for a long period of time the game will not crash, my framerate is consistantly at 60 until the game hitches then crashes.
