Mint and Ubuntu are also effected, more details are listed in this steam diskussion: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1133870/discussions/0/686365108484469179/

On some Proton Versions I just get this message shown in the screenshot not sure if same root problem or not

Same problem, any chance you're using a Intel Arc B570/B580?

CachyOS - Could play before the update without a problem

Same. I was able to play VS 1 with no issues. The start parameter listed below fixed it for me for now.

Hello Engineers,

Linux based systems are currently not officially supported for Space Engineers 2. As such, we cannot guarantee a smooth experience.

As such I will close this thread.

Kind Regards,

Any chance Keen could at least let us know if there are any additional system dependencies with VS2? If so I expect the community will be able to solve the issue ourselves

wholeheartedly agree with this. if you guys tell us what the dependencies are, i myself will get to work. no promises on success, but at least you guys over at keen don't have to lift a finger.

"PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 %command%" as start parameter made it work for the most.

But I have to agree. Watched the livestream and a really big amount of viewers are on linux and keen dont give a sh**

Even though there is no official support, this should not be marked as "not a bug", this is a bug, its just something you will not fix.

Leaving these threads open for people to share fixes is probably a good idea as well, because in the end, the magical thing with linux is that someone else will find a fix even if you guys dont.

It works on EndeavourOS (which is Arch-derived) with GE-Proton 10-25. AMD user here, if there are Nvidia related problems those would not apply in my case.

Edit: Technically it is not a bug, as SE is officially only sold as Windows-compatible. But the number of users complaining should tell Keen that Linux is no longer something to ignore.

So? Who cares if you don't have "official" support! You should at least try to offer support as Linux is becoming more popular. Too many of us are tired of the BS from MS.

It shouldn't be that difficult for your dev team to see what dependencies have changed since VS1 to give us a clue. Most of use can manipulate our Wine bottles to add such dependencies...

@Max Neumann, thanks, this worked for me. I assumed it would impact the performance, as I have an RTX 4070 Super Ti. But it works great.

Wow... That is your customer support???

Come on, Bartosz,

We don't expect official support for it. community will take care of it. just keep it open and take notes.

I'm not even on Linux and this pisses me off. Doesn't this bar some of the more knowledgeable PC users from bug testing the game and from giving you additional accurate feedback. Forgive me if I'm wrong but Linux users would have a better understanding of the use of specific dependencies due to having to configure things like proton. I feel this is a massive oversight if even just for the number of play testers.

I am aware that Linux is not supported yet, but it does not make sense to close this thread as you need Linux gamers as well if you want the game to be more successful than ever.

I have the same issue on Linux Mint with the Unable to initialize one or more dependencies of the game error.

The previous version worked flawlessly without any crashes or noticable bugs. It was also running extremely smooth, better than on Windows 11.

I tried using different versions of Proton but it still gives the same errors.

EDIT: Using the Proton HotFix and @Max Neumann suggested parameter launched the game successfully but it is lagging, inventory not showing, and then it froze. I guess I will have to wait for the next update...

Today's hotfix has a huge memory leak so bear that in mind. That is not Linux specific.

One other thing I noticed, but it may be unrelated, I never see the opening cutscene. I was wondering if anyone having the issue listed in this thread gets the cutscene or if it is skipping due to this nvidia related issue.

So a bit of an update after I came here complaining they were just brushing off Linux users: I was able to get mine running with the command "PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 %command%"

I also noticed that before, with VS1, I got the error on launch about my system not meeting the minimum requirements. I also could not enable RT with VS1.

Now, with the command above, it does launch VS2 without error; even the one about minimum requirements is not appearing. I believe it's either something with how the engine is looking for a video card, or with the Linux Nvidia drivers (known issue with poor Linux support, poo on Nvidia!).

My guess is that it's a combination of both. Something has changed on the game side because it did work before and this is the first time I've come across a game that wouldn't launch with Proton on Linux (only been on Linux for a few months, but I've tried lots of my games, both new and ancient).

For reference, I'm on a 3080 Ti on CachyOS with the currently updated Nvidia Open driver from Cachy's own repo, version 580.108.08. The launch command above does work for me.
