About Movement Speed

One of the main problems with Space Engineers has always been the speed limit.

The premise here is that a ship that is just drifting in space should not be the same speed as a ship that has its thrusters active.

It is virtually impossible to overtake a ship traveling at maximum velocity, which complicates pursuits of escaping wrecks or closing distances on enemy ships during combat.

Simply raising the speed limit from 100 m/s to 300 m/s does nothing to resolve this issue at all.

However, a more elegant solution exists that addresses these problems comprehensively:

Basically, reduce the default speed limit down to 250 m/s, but while thrusters are active, ships can accelerate up to 300 m/s. When not accelerating, the ship should slowly decelerate back to the 250 m/s limit.

For balance, this overboost capability should incur increased fuel consumption for thrusters operating above the limit, adding strategic depth to its use.

This approach would eliminate endless stalemates in combat where both ships just move in the same direction at max speed while being out of weapons range. Also, it will prevent disabled ships from evading capture, as they lack the means to accelerate actively.
