Dear Keen Software House Development Team,

First, thank you for your ongoing work and dedication to the Space Engineers franchise. As a passionate fan of the original game, I am incredibly excited about the potential of Space Engineers 2.

I am writing to suggest a feature that I believe would significantly enhance ship design, gameplay, and performance: the addition of dedicated Retractable Landing Gear blocks.

Specifically, I would love to see two distinct versions:

  1. A wheeled version for planetary rovers and aircraft.
  2. A magnetic version for securing ships to stations and capital vessels.

This suggestion is driven by observing the current player-built solutions. Many creators on YouTube and other platforms go to great lengths to build custom retractable gear using complex combinations of hinges, pistons, and rotors. While ingenious, these contraptions come with a significant cost:

  • High PCU (Performance Cost Unit) Usage: Each sub-grid part adds up, consuming precious PCU that could be used for other parts of the ship or base.
  • Complexity and Clang: These builds are often fragile, prone to the dreaded "Clang," and difficult for less experienced players to assemble.

Introducing a single, dedicated block for this function would solve these problems elegantly. The key benefits would be:

  • PCU Efficiency: A dedicated block would use far fewer resources than a multi-part mechanical construct, freeing up PCU for more creative endeavors and improving server performance.
  • Building Accessibility: It would make advanced features like retractable gear accessible to all players, not just advanced engineers.
  • Improved Reliability: It would be more stable and less prone to physics glitches than complex rotor/hinge setups.
  • Enhanced Aesthetics & Design: It allows for cleaner, more streamlined ship designs by stowing the landing gear during flight.
  • Functional Versatility: Having both wheeled and magnetic options would cover all major use cases, from ground vehicles to massive capital ships.

This feature would be a tremendous quality-of-life improvement for builders and a smart optimization for the game's performance as a whole.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to seeing the incredible worlds you build for us in Space Engineers 2.

Best regards,

Krish

A Dedicated Space Engineer
