Ship's computer - A way out there suggestion

I had this idea some time ago, and it may be just an extravagance or too fringe.
I thought would a Raspberry PI be able to be hooked up to my PC and handle some of the automation on board my ship in SE?
This would be completely optional.
It could handle some of the scripts, do a few admin tasks, and provide more on screen information about my ship on the PIs monitor.
I have heard that the PI can communicate with a PC via a USB cable.
This would require the efforts and dedication of people skilled enough to make it possible.
It would also require the SE software to allow it.
Would the overheads out way the benefits?
