Unlock tech/survival/QOL and create more challenges for engineering by having players research, over time, things such as

- Weather conditions, vegetation and biomes in each planet

- POIs, NPC ships/bases, obelisks etc

- Extreme depths (oceans/crust)

- Orbital observation and deep space satellites

- Klang research with obscure player-made mechanical creations (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7kLStl3CjI)

Tie this to the economy and have players trade research data, so that these continue to be of use when there are no more things to research.
