please with the new unified grid system do not make most of the functional blocks basically cubeoids
well at lest for more powerful versions of the functional blocks they should be weird shapes we should engineer around to be able to use, weird shapes, weird connector ports locations, heck maybe have it be like a room you go into to access the control panel on the thing,
you want a more powerful reactor then the large one here is a bigger strangely shaped one witch is more power dense per area or something
a gun that has a big ammo box under it
some be L shaped
some be shaped like bells
some be shaped like a torus
some be shaped like a weird complex 3d shape
some just be long? maybe jagged too!
some like a screw shape
maybe even some that are modular put together to increase their power but more modular bits are added the weirder the shape
i want to have functional blocks that make good use of the unified grid system, i want to tetris in functional blocks into me ships
