Unable to cleanup floating debris after collision.

After 2 ships collide I can no longer manually clean up the floating debris.
1. paste 2 ships
2. collide them high speed.
3. remove main damaged grids using ctrl-X
4. attempt to remove singular floating debris such as catwalk hand rails with ctrl-x = not possible.
5. attempt to remove by manually right click = not possible as block wont appear. it just says hit j for new grid.
