Progressive Thrust Controls - Feathering the throttle
Currently, the default controls give 100% thrust or none.
If you have a powerful or agile ship, this can make small movements such as lining up for docking, difficult. Often resulting in overshooting the connector and overcorrecting in reverse.
In other games where you have a "power" or "acceleration" button, you can feather the throttle to gain better control over the effective thrust, with the power rolling on and off over a short duration. It wouldn't need to be much, like going from 0% to 100% over 500ms, and cutting off the power similarly. This allows a player to tap the power button and feather it to get much finer power control without having to manually turn off engines.
This also allows for much finer control of ships when landing in gravity, or even flying in gravity with asymmetric thrust.
I like this feedback
One way i think it could be done is virtual throttle like in star citizen or elite dangerous.
You could set it to a value in space and cruise at 80m/s hands free.
and there would be a hotkey to change it to traditional movement.
