Confirmation when deleting grids (Shift X)

Throughout my messing around in SE 2 I found myself pressing x while holding down shift to place lots of blocks due to various reasons, like falling off a station while building on it and needing to use jet pack to get back up. This resulted in the thing I’m working on being deleted. In one instance there was a grid inside the station that prevented the action from being undone, or if you are moving at speed the grid appears behind you.
