Multi-Grid Physics Desynchronization After Undocking

Title: Undocking One Grid Causes Other Connected Grids to Physically Detach and Clip Through the Parent Grid

Description:

I encountered an unusual physics issue involving multiple ships connected to the same grid.

When I disconnect one of the attached grids, some of the other grids that I did not disconnect begin to physically separate and move abnormally.

What makes this issue particularly unusual is the inconsistent collision behavior.

Observed behavior:

  1. Multiple ships (grids) are connected to a common parent grid.
  2. I disconnect only one of the connected grids.
  3. Some of the other grids, which were not intentionally disconnected, begin to physically separate and move abnormally.
  4. These affected grids appear to ignore collisions with the parent grid they were originally connected to, passing through its structures.
  5. However, they still physically collide with the disconnected grid and the player, producing collision forces and potentially causing damage.

Expected behavior:

Disconnecting one grid should not affect the physical attachment or behavior of other grids that remain connected.

All grids should maintain consistent collision behavior regardless of whether another connected grid has been disconnected.

Possible issue:

This may involve an inconsistency between grid connection state and physics simulation after a docking connection is released.

The affected grids appear to behave as if they have become physically detached, while simultaneously ignoring collisions with their original parent grid.

The exact underlying cause is unknown.

I found another potentially related bug involving grid connections.

The grid setup is:

Grid 1 → Piston → Connector → Connector → Grid 2 → Rotor → Other Grids

When I connect Grid 1 and Grid 2 using their connectors, Grid 2 suddenly moves to an incorrect position.

However, the other grids already attached to Grid 2 remain in their original positions.

When I disconnect the connectors, Grid 2 immediately returns to its original position.

I'm concerned that keeping them connected for too long might trigger the abnormal rotation and physics behavior reported earlier.

I've recorded a new video demonstrating this issue. Please check the link below.

Yep, docking breaks the game..
