Thruster strength with/without dampener in planetary gravitation

Your thrusters are much weaker when dampeners are disabled.

I tested it with atmospheric and hydrogen thrusters. (on Verdure)

2 thrusters up with a grid weight of approximately 6.7 kg.

Super Dampeners on or off make no difference.

Quick reproduction:

  1. New game
  2. Classic survival
  3. Enable jetpack
  4. Fly up (hold space)
  5. Disable dampeners (keep holding space)

Observe how you lose upward strength (and fall back down).

I did a hydrogen thruster test. I fly with 300 m/s into Verdure and, at 0.75 gravity, I turn on the thrusters with an event controller. The only differences are the dampener modes. Here are my findings:

SuperDampeners:ON

SpeedLimit:ONDampeners:ON 4.86km ALT

SpeedLimit:OFFDampeners:ON 3.98km ALT

SpeedLimit:OFFDampeners:OFF 0.00km ALT208m/s on impact (Pressing Up Thrust)

Speed Limit On/Off makes a huge difference, which should actually be identical.

SuperDampeners:OFF

SpeedLimit:ONDampeners:ON 3.81km ALT

SpeedLimit:OFFDampeners:ON 0.69km ALT

SpeedLimit:OFFDampeners:OFF 0.00km ALT 300m/s on impact (Pressing Up Thrust)

All three should be the same.

my test world

  1. Hop into the Cockpit
  2. Disable Dammpeners
  3. Press S to desend
  4. Wait till 0.25 gravity
  5. Set up your test variant
  6. On 0.75 gravity the thrusters are turned on again
  7. Watch the result

My test was in survival. I had an atmospheric thruster set up that would lift the ship. When I turned dampers off it could not lift the ship.

I thought I was crazy. Every time I turned it off I was unable to prevent a crash manually.
