Solar panels no output after the smoother, stable, faster update

Need More Information

Hello,

I have noticed that after the latest update the solar panels are not charging the batteries anymore.

Even though the block is working, its output is 0 (zero).

Please see the attached.

Thank you.

Hello Nick Dragomir,

The position of the Solar Panel is important when calculating the energy output. For 100% efficiency, the Solar Panel should intercept the light at approximately 90 degrees. In the video you've provided, the solar panel is almost in parallel to the light direction from the Almagest.

Please try setting the Solar Panel at approx. 90 degrees to the Almagest Star and check if the output is higher.

Same issue is on the starting planet. During the day time no solar power is collected. Once you place the solar panel it charges for 2 seconds and then stops completely until you reload the game or replace the panel, only for 2 seconds tho

Hello Bartosz,

Thank you for your reply. Indeed, the position of the solar panel matters. I have ran several tests and the kW output changes.

I haven't tested on the planet though (as per @NutLit's comment).

Is this (the solar panel position relative to the sun) a change introduced in the latest update? If I recall correctly the solar panels used to produce the max output all the time while the sun was present, regardles of its poisiton.

Cheers one again!

I confirm the bug

My Solar Panels don't seem to register as powered blocks and produce zero power. In the Control Panel "Wind Turbine" have the green bar but "Solar Panel" have nothing. Wind Turbine also have an Off/On option, shouldn't Solar Panels also have this?

I put some extra panels on the Barn . Zero output on panels. Simular on space ships with panels. Wind turbine also zero output as there is no wind.

Same problem…

Same problem here, only affecting 5m, so having to put 10m's on...

Further testing shows that similar solar panels, in similar position relative to the sun show 0 output (even though the panels are literally next to each other).

Tested with both 5m and 10m panels, in space, both horizontal and vertical.

Can agree, solar panels in tutorial world show zero output in vertical or horizontal positions in direct sunlight on planet and in space. Makes base building in the tutorial world challenging as no alternate power is unlocked yet.

I am finding the exact same problem. I have put all my solar panels on a rotor so I can experiment with makeing sure they point at the sun. Sometimes they all generate power and sometimes only one or two of them do. Also, I flipped them 180 degrees using the rotor then they all worked. It's very strange. On top of this, I have 3 solar panels on my ship that only work when I move 20-30 meters from the main grid, even when the sun is directly above.

Same issue here. 445c3ab4846905348a4bcf3f907fadbb

Hello Engineers,

This issue should already be fixed on current Game version: 2.4.0.95. Solar Panel's sensor was incorrectly detecting it to be in a shadow thus not producing enough or not producing power at all.

Could you please confirm that the Solar Panels generate power on current Game version?

Yes they are working

Hi, Bartosz,

Yes, the solar panels work now.

Thank you!

Is there a front and back of the solar panels?

I still get this issue.

This does not seem to be resolved. How can I help resolve this issue? What additional information do you need?

Here are a couple of screen shots showing the panels in full sun and the output. You will notice that the output is zero.

Still not working for me.

I have tried these steps.

Deleting all solar panels.

Save while Exiting to Desktop.

Reloading.

Building only one panel. NO power.

Save while Exiting to Desktop.

Reloading. Still NO power.
