random movement when jetpack on near parked ship

Reported

This one is weird. I park my ship and get out. If I activate my jetpack (with dampeners on), I slowly drift away from the ship. Once I get a certain distance away, the motion stops. If I activate the jetpack a distance away after walking away from the ship, no random movement. If I return to the ship by jetpack and stop, I slowly start to drift away.

At first I thought it was some kind of high wind situation and was like, 'wow, neat detail', but then I tested it a bit and it seems tied to proximity to the hydrogen starter ship.

I have the same problem... very annoying.

I had a similar issue. I was being moved in a direction that I did not want to go while trying to weld a ship that had flipped over. This happened a couple of times.

It happens on occasion, have only seen it on the planet though.

I get this often when hovering close to any ship. Behaves exactly like you described.

I had this happen as well. It also stopped happening once I walked on my base. Then I go near the ship and it happens again. It also causes the player to bounce up and down when standing on the ship.

Hello Wilhelm,

I could not reproduce this issue on current Game version: v2.0.2.51. Does this issue still occurs for you?

Yes, the problem persists, as do the AMD card driver crashes. I hope this will finally be fixed.

Easy to reproduce.. append few times a day for me..

Easy to correct too.. just turn off jetpack and turn it on again... (maybe a but in the gyro of the backpack)

Hello Engineers,

I have reproduced and reported this issue internally. I have also added this thread to our internal ticket (SE2-29846).

Yes, still see it, but couldn't reproduce it until ~Objective 6: Back to Orbit. I notice it consistently when I land/park the hydrogen ship at the shipwreck but not with the grasshoppers prior. If you're trying to reproduce it, that spot around the shipwreck seems to be where I noticed it first? I started a new game and that's where it first started.

Getting this same effect right now on VS 2.2

Yea it happened again when I played recently too.

I also still get this randomly with the current release, it seems to happen more often when the ship is in park with the landing gear active (vs. the connector parking).

This is worse in .2007. Whenever this happens you can quickly fix it by toggling Z for the space suit inertia dampeners to reset

Just a data point for the devs that may or may not help. After the SE1 release this week, I randomly observed a similar drift near a ship, I had to turn my jetpack on and off to get it to stop. Happened once, haven't seen it again. Never saw it before with 5000+ hours on SE1.

Might want to check your source control and see if SE1 merged any code recently? Unlikely, which is why I say may or may not help', but it's kind of odd that it suddenly started in SE1 now too after so long?

I can replicate this in the latest build 2.3.0.2798 with a fairly simple setup, which can hopefully help to narrow it down. Video attached.

Both grids are: cockpit, battery, landing gear, and a wheel.

The red grid in the video will produce the effect. The green will not. The wheel spinning is not from me having accelerated it, there is some force acting on that grid which is causing the movement block to do things. In this case, my wedging the second grid up against it has caused some issue (it is wedged such that the wheel on the green grid cannot spin it is so close).

It seems there is some force being generated on or by the grid making the dampener system think the grid is in motion when exiting as well as spinning the wheel.

If I move the green grid away with cut/paste it will resolve the issue and the same cockpit can be used without generating the drift.

I have this issue. I've noticed it's because of relative dampeners. Whenever you get your ship on a slight angle near the ground, it's automatically "pushed" straight and slightly away from the ground. If i park a ship while this "pushing" thing is going on, obviously the ship won't move.....

..... but the relative dampeners still mimic this pushing force by making me drift away from my ship, until i disable relative dampeners!

If i first let the ship come to a complete stop by itself on whatever angle and distance it wants to be at before parking it up, this drifting doesn't happen.

Yes, in my opinion many of the old bugs from 7+ months ago are back in this release... Memory leaks, one port on the large cargo doesn't work, no loot at times, ships suddenly won't move/drift requiring exit and reload of the world, contract bugs/glitches, Fast Travel spawning ship into the station, large drills not sharp at the tip, etc.

ive found that if your grid is on a slope, and you jetpack into it your dampners take on the slope slide direction and you drift like you were standing on the slope until you double tap the dampners off then on again.
